Oscar the Sea Captain
Oscar Plomgren born in 1879, is the great-great-grandfather to today’s X gen. He was born in Onsala, near Gothenburg/ Göteborg, southern Sweden, where many of his Plomgren family ancestors were seafaring people.
A tragedy occurred in 1924 when the ship he was the captain of, the SS Fylgia, struck rocks in a storm and sunk with the loss of all hands on board. Twenty people died that night. Bengt Plomgren has researched this story in detail and has visited the coast close to the wreck. The wreck is only 14 metres under and it is a popular dive site.
Oscar left behind his wife Emilia, and 8 young children.
