Lars Gathenhielm
Related – fact or fiction ?
A family story is told that the Plomgren family were related to the Swedish ‘pirate’ Lars Gathenhielm (Lasse i Gaten). The obvious connection is that he was born and lived in Onsala, Sweden. This is the same town that the Plomgrens lived in for generations. Many Plomgrens were also on the sea, several including Oscar Plomgren were Sea Captains.
Despite attempts to track down an ancestral link to the Gathenhielm family no success to date. I might be just a tall tale.
BUT…. recent research is now getting tantalizing connections. We have definite documentation showing the Plomgren ancestors were living in Onsala in around 1700. Lassa Gathenhielm was living in Onsala from birth 1689 to death 1718. So in the exact same period. We know that the population of Onsala was around 250 people in that era.
A detailed analysis is being done on the population records for Onsala in this period to see the family connections that have occurred. This will be the method to prove or disprove the Lasse i Gatten connection to our family
